Repression against indigenous Ahwazi Arabs Continues On 2 March 2006, Ali Afrawi (17.5 years old) and Mehdi Nawaseri (20) were executed in public following months of incarceration and possibly torture and a trial that failed to meet international standards. Relatives of the two executed men claim that the authorities have refused to release the two men's bodies because they could show evidence of torture. In the same week, three Ahwazi Arabs were executed in Karoon Prison while two others were executed in Shoshtar and Abadan. Muhammad-Ali Afrawi's sister, Khadijeh Afrawi, was murdered by security forces in Ahwaz City soon after his execution. His father, Dr Awdeh Afrawi, a psychologist at an Ahwaz Chamran hospital, is currently in prison and is also likely to face execution after months in detention. On 17 March 2006, Kamal Daghaghla was summarily executed amid a wave of arrests and killings. Arab Teacher Risan Hassan Sewari (30) is facing imminent execution for his alleged role in the October 2005 bomb attack in Ahwaz, although he has been in detention since early September 2005. The regime has deployed several additional divisions of Revotionary Guards (Pasdaran) and Baseej para-military forces to the area. Khuzestan is currently cordoned off and under siege. We appeal to the world, the UN, EU, international NGO and the international community at large, to pressure the Iranian regime to stop the brutal repression of Ahwazi Arabs and ask that a team of neutral observers be sent to Khuzestan immediately to investigate the arrests, unfair trials and extrajudicial executions of indigenous Ahwazi Arabs in Khuzestan.
