LONDON, October 30 (IranMania) - The development plan on ‘Khami’ layer of Marun oil and gas field in southern province of Khuzestan was inaugurated in the presence of Iran Oil Minister and a number of provincial officials, the Persian service of ISNA reported.

Khami is the country’s deepest hydrocarbon layer after Bangestan and Asmari, stretched along Zagros Mountains in southwestern region, at 5,000 meters located 60 KM southeast of Ahvaz, provincial capital. The discovery of this layer, Well 222, in the midst of this oil-rich field for the first time in the country holds several advantages according to scientific studies.

The fluid in the reserve is of gas condensate type which may partly be used for injection into Asmari of Marun or exported as liquid gas. Moreover, the in-place volume is set at 4-7.4 trln cubic feet of which 3.4-6.2 trln is exploitable. 

The work on Khami layer started in March 2003, employing EPC (engineering, procurement and commissioning) method.
